HISTORY side of MARBELLA

Marbella’s history, influenced by the Moorish occupation of nearly 800 years, is still visible on its calles. Many magnificent monuments are absolutely worth visiting. Some Roman remains that survived Moorish occupation are also worth your time in El Casco Antiguo.

El Casco Antiguo is waiting for you with its charming narrow streets filled with monuments and beauty from old days. La Plaza de los Naranjos and its fragrant orange trees, charming fountain from 1604, original town hall built in 1572… and, as all over Marbella, numerous restaurants, bars, boutiques…

We already mentioned unique boutiques of Casco Antiguo and luxury ones of Puerto Banús but there are various options for all tastes and pockets. La Cañada shopping centre with over 150 shops, dining options as well as cinema. El Corte Inglés in Puerto Banús for higher end shopping that offers anything from groceries, gourmet dining, clothing, cosmetics, music, furniture, electronics… and even cars and travel. And if you don’t appreciate shopping centres, visit Avenida Ramon y Cajal in the city centre where you can find Burberry, Bvlgari, Cartier as well as Spanish high street shops. Obviously, a local, long-established weekly street market, mercadillo with its artisanal jewellery, food and clothes could not be missing.
